Desert Trails Board Bios




Jane Udall, President, and her husband Ken live in Rancho Mirage. She is also the Club's Trail Access Coordinator and writes the newsletter. Jane was responsible for drafting the Club's response to the Coachella Valley Multi Species Habitat Conservation Plan and represents the club as this plan continues to evolve. Jane is a retired healthcare administrator and a hike leader for the Club. She also serves on the Website Committee and volunteers at The Living Desert - talk about an energetic and busy lady, that's our President!

Verna Rutledge is our treasurer and membership coordinator.  She has been living in and learning about the Coachella Valley for the past four years.  Trading San Diego for Indio, she is a year round resident who schedules much travel in the summer time.  She love the outdoors and the wonders, beauty, and surprises of desert hiking. 

Dee (Diane) Fox, is another intrepid hike leader who is the vice-president of the Club. She is also on the Hike Leader Committee. She's lived in the Rancho Mirage cove since 1978 in a home she fondly refers to as 'retro'. A retired librarian, she is an avid seeker of information about hiking opportunities and is always asking how we can make the Club better. She is also an advocate of arts in the schools.

Rose Kauffman lives in Rancho Mirage. Since retiring from a career in public school administration in LA, Rose is now a certified trainer and specializes in helping people over 55 attain healthful fitness. She also volunteers at the Stroke Recovery Center in Palm Springs. Rose is a hike leader and is the Secretary of the Club, responsible for keeping accurate records of our meetings. She also designed and produced the new application form, brochure, and business cards. Her positive, can-do attitude is a wonderful attribute on hikes and in meetings.

John Tang and his wife Terry reside in North Vancouver, B.C. when they're not enjoying their five months in the Coachella Valley. He is a retired airline pilot and is a hike leader for the North Shore Hikers and Desert Trails. John has climbed nineteen of the major volcano peaks from California to British Columbia and will continue to share these adventures with club members. Terry and John enjoy RV'ing, hiking, golfing, boating and fishing, and are avid skiers. They enjoy the desert and will be returning to the Coachella Valley for many years to come.

Carl Gorretta and his wife Linda have enjoyed visiting the Coachella Valley for the last seven years. Since retiring in 2001, Carl has had more time to pursue interests in hiking, photography and other outdoor activities. Vancouver, Washington is home during winter and summer with Rancho Mirage home base in spring and fall. They enjoy desert visits from their four sons (three are married) and seven grandchildren.

Christy Anderson is a retired Land Use Attorney who moved to
Palm
Desert from Sacramento .  She has two grown children and one grandbaby so far.  Her avid love for hiking evolved from years of long distance running, including several marathons.  In addition to leading hikes, Christy does volunteer work with the Palm Springs Film Festival, Elderhostel, and serves on the Board of the Desert Trails Coalition, a nonprofit formed to protect and enhance trails in our valley for hikers, bikers and horse-riders.     

  Rich and Vera Pringle are from Colorado, full time RV�ers for 10+ years, and Desert Trails hike-leader coordinators.  Vera adds interest to their hikes with her knowledge of desert plants and local history.  Rich adds interest with his totally made-up stories on any subject.  They winter locally at Outdoor Resorts in their RV and travel the Rocky Mountain West in summer, organizing and leading house builds as volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.
