CLUB GOALS
 
  1. Insure that the club has the number of hike leaders that is equal or greater than 5% of the total membership and that leaders have been screened as qualified by the hike leader coordinator(s).
 
2008: Welcomed 4 new leaders this year Judie Mitchell, Kim Glasgow,  Brian and Chris Metcalf. Selective recruitment to continue.  
                              
  1. Schedule at least one easy and one moderate hike each week of the season November through April.
 
2008: Successfully focused on hikes appropriate for members' fitness levels.
 
  1. Insure a variety of 40 hikes for each schedule.
 
2008: Good variety and number for fall and winter. Spring schedule a little light due to absence of Carl and loss of Rick.
 
  1. Schedule a monthly social for all members to include pay as you go or pay ahead cocktail parties. Also included will be one hike leader appreciation and one member dinner/get together per season.
 
2008: Met this goal thanks to the good work of Mary Barlow, social coordinator.
 
  1. Organize and lead a minimum of one out of town club trip per year.
 
2008: Red Rock Canyon is our destination this year. Rochelle Carlton is acknowledged as a key leader in organizing these successful annual gatherings.
 
  1. For continued club operation maintain approximately 400 paying club members.
2008: Achieved a new record of 500 members.
 
  1. Provide club input to selected environmental/ development concerns that affect closing or opening of local trails or hiking areas.
2008: Continue to participate in Desert Trails Coalition with other trail user groups to speak with one voice on issues relating to trail access in the Coachella Valley.
 
8. Lend volunteer support to a trails-related need each year.
2008: Under the Pringle's leadership, participated in 2 work groups this year, White Water and Big Morongo, with excellent participation by club members. In addition, co-hosted the Hike for Hope with Coachella Valley Hiking Club with leaders and sweeps in the biggest breast cancer fund raiser in the Coachella Valley.
9. Provide monetary donations to selected agencies that directly support hiking in the local area.
2008: Made contributions totaling $4800 to barious parks, land trusts, and preserves.
10. Engage in an ongoing effort to assure the accuracy and completeness of the Hike Directory.
2008: Continuing to offer GPS courses and increase confidence in reliability of data in our hike directory through the efforts of all hike leaders with the guidance by John Tang.
11. Expand the number of hikes, expecially "easy" by at least 3 per year. 
 
2008: Need to work on offering new "easy" hikes.
