LETS HIKE!

We offer our members a wide variety of hikes during the week, with longer more strenuous hikes on the weekends. Some hikes will be limited to 12-15 participants so book early! Often hikes will be followed by breakfast or lunch. We encourage everyone to participate. Click on the schedule link at the bottom of the page to see upcoming hikes.

HIKING LEVELS:

Easy: up to 500 ft. accumulated elevation gain, typically 3-6 miles.

Moderate: 500-1800 ft accumulated elevation gain, typically 6-10 miles.

Strenuous: 1800-5000 ft. accumulated elevation gain,  typically longer than 8 miles.

Note: Rock scrambling, difficult footing, and off-trail routes may upgrade the difficulty level of the hike.

Register with the respective hike leader not more than one week in advance, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM only. Remember our hike leaders are volunteers. Out of area phone numbers may not receive a return call. We request you notify the hike leader if you cannot make a hike for which you have registered. Be punctual at your meeting place or you may be left behind!

REQUIREMENTS:

Hiking boots are mandatory. Bring 1-4 quarts water at your hike leaders direction. Optional equipment includes rain jacket/windbreaker, sunscreen, hat, gloves, hiking poles, snacks or lunch. For your planning purposes, allow a minimum of 1 hour to hike 2 miles.

NFAP:

National Forest Adventure Pass is required on hikes in the Santa Rosa, San Jacinto, and San Gorgonio Forests areas (except Horsethief Creek/Cactus Springs). The pass can be obtained at Big 5 Sporting Goods, the BLM Visitors Center on Hwy 74, or at any National Forest Ranger Station. The National Park Service?s Golden Age Passport and Golden Eagle Passport are accepted in place of the NFAP.

CARPOOLING

Carpooling is required on many hikes. Voluntary suggested contribution is $1 per 10 miles. You may wish to consider offering more as the price of gasoline rises. Some drivers may decline your contribution, but the offer should be made to all drivers irregardless.

NON-MEMBERS

Guests will be charged a $5 guest fee per person, per hike. This fee may be applied to the $10 membership dues, if guests join within 14 days. Hiking boots are mandatory.

NOTE:

Each hiking participant must sign in on the liability waiver. Family members cannot sign for others.

If you choose not to finish a hike with us, you are required to sign out, thereby relinquishing any responsibility towards Desert Trails
